A Word About Practicing
Motivating your child to practice is an important link for successful musical achievement. Offering praise for practicing without being reminded, humming a melody that your child has played, or a hug can readily reinforce practice times.
Ideally, your child should have a quiet place to practice away from family distractions (TV, siblings, etc.).
Please check that the lighting is adequate.
Help ensure your child sits at the correct height at the piano. Forearms should be parallel to the floor when hands are placed on the keyboard. Feet should be supported if they do not reach the floor.
Please check your child's student assignment book for details of weekly practice requirements.
Supervised practice is recommended for elementary students.
It is worth remembering that successful playing is the product of consistent practice.
Recommended minimum practice times are as follows:
Young Beginners: at discretion of parents and teacher
Elementary Students: 20 - 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week
Junior High/Middle School Students: 30 - 45 minutes per day, 5 days per week
High School Students and Adults: 45 - 60 minutes per day, 5 days per week
